New England Teacher-Poet-of-the-Year Award

NEATE’s Teacher-Poet-of-the-Year Competition is open to all teachers of English Language Arts. We are looking for teachers who practice their craft of poetry, to be shared with students and the broader world.  Only former Poets-of-the-Year are not eligible. Finalists will be chosen by a panel of judges and will be invited to read their poetry at the annual NEATE Fall Conference on October 19 and 20, 2018 when the Poet-of-the-Year will be announced.  Finalists will attend the conference on Saturday, October 20th and participate in the workshop associated with the Teacher-Poet-of-the-Year Award. Poems of the finalists will be published and distributed at the reception. Finalists are expected to become members of NEATE and register for the conference at the discounted presenter's rate.


  1. Teacher-Poets should submit three unpublished, original poems; self-published and/or  blog post. Poems may be more than one page.
  2. All poems must be submitted in English.
  3. All poems must be submitted electronically.  
  4. Teacher-Poets are required to become (or maintain) members of NEATE.
  5. Pre-service teachers and retired teachers are encouraged to submit poetry
  6. Teacher-Poets must include a 1-2 paragraph biography.
